Please find below the changes to the tour itinerary and to the opening times

Postponed opening on February 6th

We inform visitors that on Friday, February 6th, the monumental complex will open at 11.30 am to allow the holding of a trade union meeting.

Restoration works in the Medici Chapel

We inform visitors that restoration work is currently underway on some artworks in the Medici Chapel. The space will be accessible; however, the Entombment of Christ by A. Allori, the Dispute over the Immaculate Conceptio by C. Portelli, and the site of Galileo’s original burial will not be visible for the entire duration of the restoration period.

Temporary closure of the garden of St. Francis

We inform visitors that the garden of St. Francis is closed to the public in order to allow inspection and maintenance work to be carried out in the surrounding area.

Postponed opening on February 17th

We inform that on Tuesday, February 17th, the Monumental Complex will open at 11 am.

Modification to the visitor route

Work is currently underway to improve the accessibility of the monumental complex by removing architectural barriers and creating a new visitor route. After visiting the Basilica and the Sacristy, the route continues by exiting the basilica and re-entering Arnolfo’s cloister through an external passageway.

Restoration works in the Monumental Complex

Please be informed that starting from August 27, restoration works will be carried out in various areas of the Monument Complex. All areas will remain open to visitors, but the visitor route may be subject to temporary changes. Additionally, during certain times of the day, the construction work may cause noise disturbances.

Bardi Chapel under restoration

We inform visitors that the Bardi chapel is now closed for restoration. The Giotto frescoes with the Stories of Saint Francis will not be visible for the duration of the restoration period.

Handling of works of art

Henry Moore's Warrior with Shield (1972), after a period of maintenance, is currently located in Palazzo Vecchio, in the Terrazza di Saturno, where the sculptor himself desired it.
