Basilica of Santa Croce Open Days – New Timetable

A recent accord between the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Religious Buildings Fund and Opera di Santa Croce has allowed us to devise a new annual timetable of open days when the Basilica of Santa Croce can be visited free of charge, in agreement with the resident Franciscan Community.

  • 1 January;
  • Second Sunday in February;
  • Easter Sunday;
  • 13 June (St. Anthony of Padua);
  • 15 August (Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary);
  • 14 September (Feast of the True Cross);
  • European Heritage Days (27 and 28 September);
  • 4 October (St. Francis of Assisi);
  • Second Sunday in November;
  • Sunday before Christmas;
  • 26 December (Boxing Day – St. Stephen).

Visitors will be admitted on the basis of 45-minute time slots until maximum capacity has been reached from 12.30 pm to 5.45 pm (last admission 4.30 pm). Free tickets cannot be booked online, it will be possible to access only the basilica by going directly to the ticket office of the monumental complex (on this occasion, only the basilica will be open, while the cloisters, the refectory, the Pazzi chapel, and the Cerchi chapel will not be open to visitors).

The timetable has been planned thanks to a partial refund of the financial burden sustained by the Opera di Santa Croce for a number of past restoration projects and only includes the Basilica, which is owned by the Interior Ministry’s Religious Building Fund. The other areas in the complex (the Pazzi Chapel, Sacristy, Refectory and Cloisters) are not included in the Open Day programme and will therefore be closed on those days.
