Visits to the restoration site of the Bardi Chapel

From April to June, it is possible to visit the restoration site of the Bardi Chapel, decorated by Giotto in the early 1300s with the Stories of Saint Francis. This is an extraordinary opportunity to admire up close one of the masterpieces of Italian art, observing details and technical features of a mature work by the great artist, who chose to depict the most significant moments in the life of the Poor Man of Assisi through six scenes rich in realism and expressive intensity.

The restoration of the Bardi Chapel was commissioned by the Opera to the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, one of the most prestigious restoration institutions at the international level. It represents a unique opportunity to deepen our knowledge of the Florentine master, while also gaining insight into the daily work of this extraordinary innovator. After more than three years of intense work, we are now approaching the final phase of a particularly complex project, made possible thanks to the support of Fondazione CR Firenze, ARPAI (Association for the Restoration of Italian Artistic Heritage), and many private donors from Italy and abroad.
